The Albert Einstein Center for Fundamental Physics (AEC) at the University of Bern maintains a visitor program directed towards scientists working in theoretical or experimental high-energy physics and related areas. The visitor's research interests should overlap with, or suitably complement, those of the faculty or postdoctoral researchers working at the Institute for Theoretical Physics or at the Laboratory for High-Energy Physics.
We particularly welcome extended visits of 1-3 weeks' duration. In some cases, we may also be able to support longer visits (1-6 months), in particular sabbatical stays. Both types of visits can take place at any time of the year.
The AEC supports such visits by helping with housing arrangements, by providing for office space and computer access, and by contributing towards local expenses. The reimbursement should normally be sufficient to cover the housing expenses. (Where appropriate we can also provide basic information concerning visa/immigration requirements.) The AEC visitor program is aimed at researchers who have completed their PhD. It supports individual scientists only.
To submit an application (consisting of a brief motivation, an indication of a preferred period of stay and possible alternatives, as well as a recent CV), or to obtain further information, please contact Prof. Thomas Becher. The application needs to indicate a senior scientist at AEC, who is willing to act as the local host in Bern. Applications are welcome any time; we normally need 1-2 months to evaluate whether we can accommodate a given visitor (up to 3 months in the case of sabbatical stays).
